Using technology in class is influential to students and teachers because it is a new, and fun method of learning. Students are more likely to want to learn on a mode of technology rather than read a textbook and take notes on notebook paper. Teachers can use technology to keep better track of papers and other things that may get lost if they were a loose sheet of paper. Technology keeps a classroom organized and engaged.
The ISTE Standard that is meaningful to me would be the Creative Communicator skill. I enjoy doing creative things with technology such as making powerpoints, random websites, flyers, etc. The things I create are seen by other people which communicates the message I'm trying to send. A standard that is outside my skill set would be the Computational Thinker skill because it includes problem-solving and computing algorithms. I am not very good at math and critical thinking so this skill set it's not for me.
The label 'digital native' does not resonate well with me. A digital native is a word used to describe a person that was brought up in the age of technology. I would just use the label 'tech-savvy' which better describes our generation. We know more things about technology and are more open to learning new things where technology is concerned. Most teachers just know the basics of using technology and can't be bothered with learning anything new, they stick to their own ways and are not open to know more about the new technology their students are using. I do not anticipate a big difference between my future students and I being that I was born in the "digital age". I believe that we will be on the same page as far as technology in the classroom goes.
